Fit To Move On…11 to go

Posted in Assembly, Body and Fender at 6:23 pm by Administrator

I finally got the door to fit. The first picture is my neighbor Bruce. He and his wife Michelle have been very supportive during this project and Bruce has loaned me some tools (he is a master carpenter) to speed my efforts. Today he helped me with the door. Dave also came over and we analyzed and discussed possible solutions. When it came down to it I basically started the door hanging process over, as if I were using a new kit. The hinges came off and the door was reshaped to fit the hole. Anyway the doors are 90% finished. Today I received my low voltage wire harness and fuse block in the mail. The last picture shows what a fuel gauge can be used for on an “Evie”

Two Treachorous Days, One Worn Out Car Guy

Posted in Assembly, Body and Fender at 9:28 pm by Administrator

For the last two days I have been trying to fit the top and doors. It has been a very trying time, to say the least. What your looking at is before and during pictures (hoping my plan works and I will be able to publish after pictures tomorrow. The first few pics show the front windshield pillar post Note the gap. The doors did not align at all. Interestingly, I had two othe Bradley GT 2 which I bought for parts. The tops and doors are all inter-changable in any combination on the other two Bradleys But this car, the one I have done all of this work on doesn’t …er, that is Didn’t want to except the doors and top…Enough of me jabbering, see for yourself… I need a shower…

Trying times with the top and doors

All I can say is, until you’ve tried to hang doors and align a top from two different kit cars which have already been partially built, consider yourself lucky. Today I was supposed to do just that in order to be on schedule. Well needless to say I am not on schedule (just slightly behind) Maybe I’ll catch up after tomorrow…Evie with butterfly doors Mike Cuiel, master wrench turner

The Flippers and, The Flipped Out…14 To Go

Posted in Assembly, Body and Fender, Design, Drive Train at 2:25 pm by Administrator

Today we put “Evie” and her classy Chassis together. The Three people helping me are Mike, Jeff Casey, and Dave Haggland. As you recall Dave is the one who came up with Idea of sending the GT 40 headlight lenses back to RCR and having custom ones made. Well RCR would not let me return the unused headlight lenses but Eddie at “Sew Creative” will have my newly manufactured ones ready tomorrow. The idea of cutting out the piece and putting in one just like it only clear was Dave’s. I was just the designer and fabricator. Jeffery has also helped me on a number of occasions. Today after flipping “Evie” Jeff helped me install the steering wheel. He has also contributed to the sanding and prep work of Evie. In addition to that Jeff is a great guitar and bass player and has just recently “mastered” the five string banjo.
Mike is the newest member of Team “Evie”, he was curious about the car so I put him to work and he did a great job. I now present “Evie” and Her Classy Chassis…

Eeek a Ghost!

Posted in Assembly, Body and Fender, Design at 12:42 pm by Administrator

This morning I went to B & Z paint store and picked up my paint (primer). The guy at the store said “If you go home and shoot this now you should be OK, two Hours from now…you’ll be trying to spray sand.”
What he was talking about is the ambient temp. At 80 degrees the paint has a tendency to activate too fast and is very difficult to work with. When I got home it was about 78 degrees in my shop.
“No time like the present”, I thought, and mixed up a batch. It went on OK but with each quart I sprayed the temp was going up. So after the 3rd quart (and some difficulty with the gun), I cleaned up for another day.
Tomorrow we flip!

Launch Sequence Commenced 16 Days to Go

Posted in Assembly, Batteries, Body and Fender, Design, Sub Frame at 5:48 pm by Administrator

Today started mighty early, 0600, that is early for me. I Went to the shop and finished some necessary sanding. Today was supposed to be primer day for the underside of “Evie”. At 0730 I drove to Sew Creative to talk to Eddie and find out about my Lenses. I also went to B & Z auto paint to get the primer. Alas… the primer won’t be in until 0900 tomorrow. So back home I went with some cleaner and a few other items for painting. This setback was not going to get the best of me. I cleaned “Evie” and got ready for primer. Then I looked over my schedule. Tomorrow I only had one task and that was to build battery boxes. Over the last few days though I have re-designed my battery Placement and only needed to build a mock up battery. I also cut a piece of polypropylene to line the front battery rack. When I ran out of stuff to do (there are certain things that have to be done in sequence) I bench tested my windshield wiper mechanism.

Some Additional Bodywork

Posted in Assembly, Body and Fender, Design at 11:53 pm by Administrator

After evaluating my options I’ve decided to sand down the underside of the headlight housing and box it in with wood and, glass over the structure. These pictures show the wood work. The wood is actually some kind of pressed cardboard like masonite. Those box looking things will get glassed over.

Now Flip It, Flip It Good…

Posted in Assembly, Body and Fender, Design, Restore at 2:52 am by Administrator

Yesterday I spent the morning doing fiberglass layups on the right Headlight housing. Then I fired up the bar-b-que and had some friends over. This morning I trimmed yesterday’s work and my friends Jeff and Dave came over to help me flip the car so that it once again looks like “a dead cockroach”. I am actually ahead of schedule.Tomorrow I will finish the glass that needs to be done on the underside of “Evie”
